Thanksgiving kicks off the season for giving. Long Beach is filled with so many churches and non-profits that do an amazing job of providing holiday meals and other needed items to those that would otherwise go without. We put together a short list with more to come throughout the season.
Scan 24th Annual Thanksgiving Meal Delivery Event

Date: Thursday, November 24, 2016 Time: 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Description Do you have a few hours to help seniors on Thanksgiving morning? Start your day off right by being a part of Volunteer Action for Aging’s 24th Annual Thanksgiving Meal Delivery Event! Volunteers are needed to share a brief visit and deliver meals to over 2,000 homebound seniors throughout Long Beach and Los Angeles County. Meal pick-ups originate at the SCAN office parking lot on Kilroy Airport Way in Long Beach. You can even make this a family event and still be home in time to enjoy your own Thanksgiving!

If you miss the deadline for the Thanksgiving Meal Delivery this organization schedules other giving events during the year so call them to get information of how you can be of service.
Long Beach Rescue Mission – Turkey’s Please
The Long Beach Rescue Mission is preparing to serve more than 52,000 meals over the holiday season and is in need of donations. They need Turkeys, Hams, pumpkin pies and can veggies. Donations can be dropped off at 1335 Pacific Ave. You can call first but not needed. Donations are accepted Monday through Friday. Need more information, call 562-591-1292….Fred. Safe Refuse – Turkey’s & Hams Please
Safe Refuge formally The Substance Abuse Foundation is looking for turkeys and hams to help feed the homeless during Thanksgiving. To donate, deliver to 3125 East 7th Street. No need to call you can deliver anytime during the week in the back of alley or you can call Chris Cobb who is the kitchen supervisor during the week @ 562-987-5722.
